# No, You Still Can't Win Trophy/Achievement Guide in Mortal Shell 2

The Tar Golem is one of the first major fights in Mortal Shell 2 and easily one of the toughest challenges you will face during the prologue. After completing the rest of the opening section, you can head straight from the Beacon you cleansed to the boss arena, where a cutscene begins the fight.
The unusual part is that even if your Shell breaks during the battle, the encounter is automatically brought to an end, and a cutscene plays where your Shell saves you before being destroyed. Since you seemingly only get one chance at the fight, and there is an achievement or trophy tied to defeating the boss, many players will wonder what actually happens if they manage to win.

## How to Retry the Tar Golem Fight in Mortal Shell 2

Before getting into what happens after defeating the Tar Golem, it is worth knowing that you can give yourself additional attempts if you do not want to replay the entire prologue.
If you are playing on PlayStation 5 , you can create a backup save at the final Beacon before entering the Tar Golem arena, provided you are a PlayStation Plus member. Make sure Auto Sync is disabled before doing this, so your backup does not get overwritten. If you die or the encounter ends unsuccessfully, you can restore the save and attempt the fight again.
PC players have an easier option. If you can tell that the fight is not going your way and the ending cutscene begins, press Alt + F4 to close the game. This prevents the game from saving the outcome. When you launch Mortal Shell 2 again and select Continue, you should find yourself outside the boss arena before the bone gate.
You can then enter the arena and try again. If you fail, repeat the process.

## How to Beat the Tar Golem in Mortal Shell 2

The Tar Golem does not have an enormous number of attacks, but its attacks hit hard, and several require specific responses. The boss can jump high into the air before performing an unblockable attack . Do not attempt to deflect this attack and instead dodge out of the way.
It also has a series of slam attacks where it brings down both weapons one after another. These are attacks you should ideally deflect , as successfully doing so builds the boss's Stagger meter and can eventually give you an opportunity to perform a Riposte for significant damage.
Another attack sees the Tar Golem leap backward before immediately dashing toward you with another unblockable attack. Dodge to the side to avoid it, then take advantage of the opening to land a few attacks.
Once the boss loses around half of its health, its attacks begin dealing Fire damage . Be particularly careful during this phase, as getting hit causes you to continue losing health after the initial attack.
Your sidearm is also extremely useful during this fight. It can deal significant damage to the Tar Golem, while landing melee attacks restores Resolve, allowing you to use your sidearm repeatedly throughout the encounter.

## What Happens If You Beat the Tar Golem?

If you successfully defeat the Tar Golem, the boss will slam both of its weapons into the ground. Your Shell will still be destroyed, triggering the same cutscene that plays when the fight ends normally.
However, there is one important difference: you will receive the "No, You Still Can't Win" achievement or trophy. Beyond earning the achievement or trophy, nothing else changes. The same cutscene plays, and the story continues exactly as it normally would.
So, if you are not interested in collecting the achievement or trophy, there is no reason to worry about winning this fight during your first attempt. Even if your Shell is destroyed, the outcome is ultimately the same, and you can continue to complete the prologue.
