# Troubadour's Lute in Mortal Shell 2 — Location and How to Get It

Troubadour's Lute is one of the strangest Sidearms in Mortal Shell 2. Rather than firing conventional projectiles, it unleashes musical energy that can inflict Confusion, temporarily causing enemies to attack each other. You can also use it as a proper musical instrument, with playing every available track tied to an achievement or trophy.
The Lute can be obtained relatively early in Fainweald. It is located inside the One-Legged Wolf Tavern , east of Mushroom Village. There is no boss, puzzle, or key associated with the pickup, although you first need the ability that allows the Harbinger to cleanse corruption blocking the road.

## Where to find the Troubadour's Lute in Mortal Shell 2

The Troubadour's Lute is inside the One-Legged Wolf Tavern in eastern Fainweald.
The closest fast-travel point is the One-Legged Wolf Beacon .
If you have already activated this Beacon, simply follow the nearby road toward the tavern, enter the building, and approach the stage.
The Lute is to the left of the musician on the stage . Interact with it to add the Troubadour's Lute to your Sidearm collection.

## How to reach the One-Legged Wolf Tavern

If you have not explored this part of Fainweald yet, Mushroom Village is a convenient starting point.
Head east from the village and follow the route through the surrounding paths and rope bridges.
The main obstacle is a wall of corruption blocking further progress. You cannot pass it during the earliest part of the game.

## How to clear the corruption blocking the Lute

You need Mether's Breath to cleanse these corruption barriers.
The ability is unlocked after collecting and siphoning enough Ova at Marrow Keep. Once acquired, it allows the Harbinger to remove corruption growths that previously blocked several routes through Fainweald.
If you reach the barrier but cannot clear it, continue collecting Ova and progress the corresponding Marrow Keep mechanic before returning.

## Route from Mushroom Village to the Lute

- Travel to the Mushroom Village Beacon.
- Head east from the village.
- Follow the path downhill.
- Continue through the rope-bridge section.
- Pass the cultists along the route.
- Locate the corruption barrier.
- Use Mether's Breath to cleanse it.
- Continue along the newly opened road.
- Activate the One-Legged Wolf Beacon.
- Follow the nearby path to the tavern.
You will encounter several dangerous enemies beyond the corruption barrier, but defeating all of them is not required to obtain the Lute.

## Exact Troubadour's Lute location

Enter the One-Legged Wolf Tavern. The NPCs inside are friendly, so there is no combat encounter here.
Walk toward the stage where a musician is performing.
The Troubadour's Lute is leaning beside the stage to the left of the performer.
Interact with it and the Sidearm is immediately added to your inventory.

## Important: the Lute is no longer in Mushroom Village

Older Mortal Shell 2 guides may direct you toward the large offering chest surrounded by dancing women in Mushroom Village.
That information comes from the beta build.
During the beta, players could light three offering stations around Mushroom Village and open the central chest to obtain the Lute.
The launch version changed this reward. The Troubadour's Lute was moved to the One-Legged Wolf Tavern, so completing the Mushroom Village offering puzzle is no longer required for this Sidearm.

## What does the Troubadour's Lute do?

The Lute functions as a Sidearm but behaves very differently from crossbows and other ranged weapons.
Its musical attack can apply Confusion to enemies.
A confused enemy can turn against nearby hostiles and attack them instead of focusing exclusively on the Harbinger.
This makes the Lute particularly effective when dealing with groups.

## How Confusion works

Hit an eligible enemy with the Lute's musical attack to apply Confusion.
Once affected, the target can begin attacking nearby enemies. You can step away and let the group damage itself rather than fighting everyone simultaneously.
The Lute is particularly useful:
- against large enemy groups;
- inside crowded dungeon rooms;
- when a powerful enemy is surrounded by weaker targets;
- for splitting dangerous packs;
- when conserving Health and healing resources.
If there are no suitable enemies nearby for the confused target to attack, the Lute can instead contribute Break damage.

## Does the Lute use ammunition?

It does not require conventional bolts or arrows.
Like other Sidearms, the Troubadour's Lute uses Resolve as its resource.
A strong approach is to use it before engaging a large group: confuse one of the more dangerous enemies, step back, and allow it to fight its allies.

## Can you actually play music with the Lute?

Yes. The Troubadour's Lute doubles as a musical instrument.
There are five tracks associated with it, and you can cycle between them while playing.
This feature is also tied to an achievement or trophy.

## How to unlock the Lute achievement

Equip the Troubadour's Lute in your Sidearm slot.
Start playing and cycle through its available songs. You need to play all five tracks .
On a controller, the general sequence is:
- equip the Troubadour's Lute;
- hold the Sidearm aim button;
- press the play/fire input;
- use the D-pad to cycle tracks;
- repeat until all five tracks have been played.
PC bindings can vary, so check your assigned Sidearm controls if the default inputs have been changed.
Playing every track unlocks the Heavy Metal achievement or trophy.

## Can the Troubadour's Lute be upgraded?

The Lute is unusual because it does not use the normal Sidearm upgrade progression .
You therefore do not need to hunt for a Tarforge component to raise it through the standard +1, +2, and later weapon ranks.
Compatible Tarstones can still be equipped to modify its combat performance.

## Which Tarstones work with the Lute?

The Troubadour's Lute supports several Tarstones associated with ranged attacks and Sidearms.
Useful options include stones that improve Critical Chance, Critical damage, Break performance, or add secondary effects to ranged attacks.
Your ideal setup depends on whether you primarily use the Lute for Confusion or want to make it a more active part of your combat build.

## What else should you do at the One-Legged Wolf Tavern?

Do not leave immediately after collecting the Lute.
Gragu can also be found inside the tavern. His NPC quest is connected to the Heart of Vatra and eventually leads to another important reward.
Visiting the One-Legged Wolf therefore lets you collect the Troubadour's Lute and begin Gragu's quest during the same trip.

## Is the Troubadour's Lute worth using?

Other Sidearms are generally more straightforward against isolated bosses, since Confusion is at its best when several enemies are present.
For open-world exploration and dungeon clearing, however, the Lute can be extremely effective. Turning one dangerous enemy against an entire group can make encounters considerably safer.
The quick route is: Mushroom Village → eastern road → rope bridges → cleanse the corruption barrier with Mether's Breath → One-Legged Wolf Beacon → tavern → stage → Troubadour's Lute beside the musician .
