The player takes control of a Hunter , journeying to a new part of the world known as the Forbidden Lands in what Capcom describes as the most immersive story in the series. The game's largest change to the formula is introducing an expansive and living world, with both the areas themselves and the monsters within them feeling and behaving more lifelike than ever. The game was released on February 28, 2025 on Playstation 5, Xbox Series X, and Microsoft Windows simultaneously, and is the first entry in the series to allow crossplay between all major current-gen platforms. The journey continues in the expansion, Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance . ## Contents - 1 Gameplay - 2 Setting - 3 Monsters - 4 Endemic Life - 5 Trailers - 6 Gallery - 7 Notes ## Gameplay [ ] The following information has been revealed through trailers, previews with content creators, and the official website: - The Hunter now has a raptor-like companion called a Seikret , which appears to serve a similar purpose to the Palamute , with the added ability of bounding between rock formations, gliding, and accessing equipment. - The armor system has received several changes: Hunters may choose between armor designs that were previously designated as Male and Female regardless of their gender. Set Bonuses can now be activated by the type of monster the armor originated from; for example, a full set comprised of armor from Rathalos will give the "Rathalos's Flare" Set Bonus. - The Hunter can now take two weapons into a hunt, and can swap between them by mounting their Seikret. - Weapons now have skills, some depending on the weapon. - Hunting locations are significantly larger than previous games. Hub areas now directly connect with hunting locations, meaning the player can start a quest and enter the hunting location without a loading screen. Locales are now connected and can be transitioned without entering a quest, like moving from the Windward Plains to the Scarlet Forest - Each region has a unique Apex predator, which often appears during Inclemency. - Starting a quest can now be done directly from the field. Quests can now be ended immediately after completion instead of waiting for the timer. Quests involving hunting monsters can start when dealing enough damage to that monster. - Areas can now go through significant changes in climate during and between hunts; each map has three states known as Plenty, Fallow, and Inclemency. The Plenty state is characterized by lush vegetation, stable weather conditions, and large packs of herbivores. The Fallow state is characterized by lower herbivore activity and less-than-ideal weather conditions. The Inclemency state is characterized by hostile weather (such as sandstorms and heavy downpours for example) and the presence of dangerous monsters, such as Rey Dau and Uth Duna . - Turf Wars are now more elaborate, and can involve entire packs of the two monsters involved. Turf Wars can be used to separate the leader of a pack from its followers; for example, a Doshaguma pack can be lured into a Balahara sand trap, which causes the smaller members to be dragged into the sand and allowing the leader to be fought alone. - Both large and small monsters can now appear in packs. Packs of large monsters are led by an Alpha, with differences in size and coloring from the "lesser" pack members; they can be drawn away from the pack by using environmental hazards. So far, only the Doshaguma have a separate Alpha member. From Title Update 3 onwards, large monster packs can be hunted as quest targets. This only applies to Doshaguma, Hirabami, and Yian Kut-Ku. - Monsters now appear in varying threat levels signifying their health and attack power, even on a single map, similarly to Monster Hunter Now . The threat levels are marked by stars ranging from one to five. The majority of monsters can be listed as any of those levels, though apex monsters and Arkveld can only range from three to five, Frenzied monsters are always at three, and Zoh Shia is always at the maximum five. - 9 returning large monsters have been confirmed thus far, being Rathalos shown in the initial trailer, Yian Kut-Ku in the extended version of the 4th trailer, Congalala in the September 28th Livestream, Rathian in a blurry screenshot, Gypceros in the 2nd Open Beta reveal, Gravios in the cooking tutorial, Nerscylla and Gore Magala in the 6th trailer, and Blangonga in a commercial. 4 returning large monsters in the Title Updates are Mizutsune , Lagiacrus , Seregios, and Gogmazios - In Ascendance, 2 returning large monsters were confirmed thus far, Kushala Daora and Lao-Shan Lung in the reveal trailer. - Crossplay has been confirmed for the game, allowing players of Steam, Xbox Series X, and PS5 to gather in the same lobbies and hunts. - Parts broken are now specific on which part of the monster is broken, such as Head Broken, Left Leg Broken, Stinger Broken. - Frenzied monsters from 4 Ultimate and Tempered and Arch-tempered monsters from World has returned. Tempered monsters now have battle scars that creates wounds easier. Frenzied monsters are much more aggressive and inflict the Frenzy Virus though their attacks, though their health is greatly reduced. - Monster corpses now rot and decompose. Their bodies will leak fluids, the skin turns a darker coloration, sprouts harvestable fungi, and eventually skeletonizing and leaving behind harvestable bones. In the case of Constructs , instead of decomposing, their body crystallizes in Wylk crystals which can be harvested. ## Setting [ ] The Forbidden Lands features the most expansive and lifelike environments ever seen in the series, with changing climates and wildlife that changes alongside it. It is a region that has only recently been cleared for exploration by the Guild, with the player being part of the first expedition into the area. ## Monsters [ ] ![Ajarakan](../media/57eebdb608_0.webp) ![Arkveld](../media/57eebdb608_1.webp) ![Balahara](../media/57eebdb608_2.webp) ![Blangonga](../media/57eebdb608_3.webp) ![Chatacabra](../media/57eebdb608_4.webp) ![Ceratonoth](../media/57eebdb608_5.webp) ![Congalala](../media/57eebdb608_6.webp) ![Doshaguma](../media/57eebdb608_7.webp) ![Guardian Arkveld](../media/57eebdb608_8.webp) ![Guardian Doshaguma](../media/57eebdb608_9.webp) ![Guardian Ebony Odogaron](../media/57eebdb608_10.webp) ![Guardian Fulgur Anjanath](../media/57eebdb608_11.webp) ![Guardian Rathalos](../media/57eebdb608_12.webp) ![Guardian Seikret](../media/57eebdb608_13.webp) ![Gore Magala](../media/57eebdb608_14.webp) ![Gravios](../media/57eebdb608_15.webp) ![Hirabami](../media/57eebdb608_17.webp) ![Jin Dahaad](../media/57eebdb608_18.webp) ![Lala Barina](../media/57eebdb608_19.webp) ![Lagiacrus](../media/57eebdb608_20.webp) ![Mizutsune](../media/57eebdb608_21.webp) ![Nerscylla](../media/57eebdb608_22.webp) ![Nu Udra](../media/57eebdb608_23.webp) ![Quematrice](../media/57eebdb608_24.webp) ![Rathalos](../media/57eebdb608_25.webp) ![Rathian](../media/57eebdb608_26.webp) ![Seikret](../media/57eebdb608_29.webp) ![Seregios](../media/57eebdb608_30.webp) ![Uth Duna](../media/57eebdb608_31.webp) ![Wudwud](../media/57eebdb608_32.webp) ![Xu Wu](../media/57eebdb608_33.webp) ![Yian Kut-Ku](../media/57eebdb608_34.webp) ![Zoh Shia](../media/57eebdb608_35.webp) ## Endemic Life [ ] - MHWilds: Endemic Life List ## Trailers [ ] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OFoueW07mxQ ## Gallery [ ] ![](../media/57eebdb608_36.webp) ![](../media/57eebdb608_37.webp) ![](../media/57eebdb608_38.webp) ## Notes [ ] - It is a spiritual successor of Monster Hunter World and Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate. Unlike World, Wilds is releasing on a Nintendo Console. - Monster Hunter Wilds is the first game in the series not to have an Elder Dragon at release, with the first being Gogmazios which was added for Title Update 4. Although, technically Zoh Shia is the first Elder Dragon, with its heavy implications of housing Fatalis genes along with being incredibly similar to Fatalis overall underneath its Wylk armor. It doesn't hold such as like all Guardians , it is considered a Construct by the Hunter's Guild. Ascendance focuses on Elder Dragons, featuring 2 returning Elder Dragons: Kushala Daora and Lao-Shan Lung. - While Arkveld is the game's flagship monster, the monster in the cover is actually the Guardian Arkveld (as seen by its blue tongue and black eyes), which has a bigger role in the story than the normal Arkveld. - On May 27th, 2025, Monster Hunter Wilds has added Mandarin Chinese voiceovers in the game.
