# How to Fish Walkthrough — Bosses, Quests, Fishing and All Achievements

How to Fish is an unusual physics-based fishing game from Dazed Games where a fishing rod is only one of many tools used to catch your prey. After crashing your boat, you end up exploring a chain of islands, catching and killing strange creatures, selling them for money, buying weapons and upgrades, completing quests, and fighting bosses. The game can be played solo or in online co-op for up to four players.
In this walkthrough, we explain how to progress through How to Fish, unlock new islands, get the boat key, defeat the main bosses, and earn every achievement. We also cover killscore multipliers, rare Drip variants, the casino, and the achievements that are best saved for the endgame.

## How Fishing and Money Work

Fishing in How to Fish is very different from traditional fishing simulators. There is no tension meter to carefully manage. Your rod is mainly used to pull or launch creatures out of the water, after which you can finish them with your fists, a knife, a pistol, a rifle, dynamite, and other weapons.
The basic gameplay loop is simple: hook or scare a creature out of the water, kill it, then sell the body. Spend the money on better rods, weapons, attachments, boat engines, and other equipment. Completing quests for NPCs gradually unlocks new islands and bosses.
The value of your catch is not determined only by the species. Stylish kills increase your Killscore multiplier. You can combine several conditions, such as killing a creature while it is airborne, landing a headshot, firing without aiming, or spinning 360 degrees before the shot. The Impressive achievement requires a x5 multiplier on a single kill.
Because of this, learning how to consistently earn high multipliers is more profitable in the early game than immediately hunting rare creatures. Even an ordinary fish with a strong Killscore can sell for a surprisingly large amount.

## Rare Fish and Drip Variants

Many creatures have rare variants known as Drip versions. They appear in the same general locations as their normal counterparts but have a much lower spawn rate.
The Collector achievement requires you to find and kill every regular creature species, while Fishipedia requires the rare Drip variants as well. Because of this, dedicated Drip farming is best left until the end of the game. Kill any rare variants you encounter naturally, but do not spend too much time farming one spot during the story.

## What to Do on the Starting Island

Once the game begins, explore the starting island. You will find a wooden cabin, a board with available equipment, the lighthouse keeper, and Melvin in orange overalls. Speak to every named NPC with an interaction prompt. Some quest stages only continue after talking to the same character again.
Your first objective should be simple: kill any creature. Bare hands or the knife are enough. This unlocks the Getting started achievement.
Do not waste money on expensive equipment immediately. Your first important purchases should be a firearm and a boat engine upgrade. The rod is useful for launching fish into the air, while guns are much more efficient for earning money.

## How to Get the Boat Key

One of the first progression blockers is the locked boat. The key is not something you can simply buy from the shop. You first need to advance the lighthouse keeper's quest, Who stole my beer .
Find the creature that stole the beer, kill it, and carry the body back to the lighthouse keeper. After completing the quest, speak to both the keeper and Melvin again, then check the wrecked boat and the board near the cabin. The key is tied to quest progression, so there is no reason to save money for another boat or search through shop items.

## What to Buy First

A good upgrade order is fairly straightforward. Start by buying a firearm you are comfortable using. After that, purchase the first boat engine upgrade. This makes traveling between islands easier and also unlocks the Getting an upgrade achievement.
Next, start installing attachments on one weapon. It is better to fully upgrade a single gun instead of spreading parts across several weapons. Later, you will need to fill every attachment slot on one weapon for the Fully equipped achievement.
After your main weapon is properly upgraded, save for the best boat engine. Casino spending and expensive collection farming should be left until you are close to finishing the story.

## How to Make Money Quickly

If you are constantly short on money, you are probably selling creatures after basic x1 kills. Try launching them out of the water first and then shooting them while airborne. Extra kill conditions increase the multiplier and final sale price.
It is worth practicing x5 kills early. Launch a creature with the rod, quickly swap to a gun, and combine several bonuses such as an airborne kill, headshot, hip-fire shot, or another special condition.

## How to Get Noob and Impressive

These two achievements require almost opposite playstyles.
For Noob , kill a creature with no multiplier at all. The easiest method is to drag a weak creature onto land and kill it with a knife or another basic attack. Do not launch it into the air or perform any tricks.
For Impressive , you need a x5 Killscore on a single kill. Weak creatures on the starting island are ideal for this. Launch one into the air, pull out your weapon, and stack several scoring conditions before killing it.

## How to Get 360 no scope

For the 360 no scope achievement, launch a creature into the air, pull out a gun, perform a full 360-degree spin, and kill it with a hip-fire shot.
The key requirement is not using the aiming button. Even if the spin is correct, aiming down sights can cause the attempt to fail. Pick a weak creature that dies in a single shot to make this much easier.

## Seagulls — Let me go and Everyone's dream

Two achievements are tied to seagulls, and it is better to complete them separately.
For Let me go , you need a seagull to lift your character. When the bird tries to steal your catch, do not attack it. Hold onto a fish and wait until the bird grabs you along with it.
For Everyone's dream , you must kill a seagull with dynamite. Use your first good seagull encounter for Let me go, then use another bird later for the dynamite kill.

## The Grill and Related Achievements

As soon as you find the grill, activate it. Turning it on for the first time unlocks Grillmaster .
For Yummy in my tummy , place a normal creature on the grill and leave it there long enough to burn. Then eat the cooked creature.
Later, you will also need Competitive eating , which requires eating a mini-boss. Do not sell the mini-boss after defeating it. If the game does not let you eat it immediately, cook it on the grill first.

## Main Quest Walkthrough

New islands unlock gradually as you complete quests and defeat bosses. Do not stay on the first island farming rare fish for too long. If you cannot reach the next area, check your active quests and talk to named NPCs again.

### Who stole my beer

This quest is given by the lighthouse keeper. Find the creature that stole his beer, kill it, and bring the body back. The quest is an important part of the early progression chain and is connected to unlocking the boat.

### Dinnertime

This quest is tied to the woman in the forest. She wants food, so catch the required creature and bring it to her. Do not accidentally sell the quest item. If she refuses raw food, try cooking it on the grill first and then return to her.

### Vacation

This quest involves a tourist who cannot swim. Follow the objective prompts and help him get into the water in the intended way. Depending on the situation, you may need to push, tow, or move him with the boat. Simply killing or drowning him will not complete the quest.

### Terrorizing bird

On one of the islands, the residents are being attacked by a giant bird. This is a combat encounter rather than a fishing objective.
Bring a firearm and enough ammunition before starting. Lead your shots while the bird is moving and use dynamite when it lands or becomes an easy target. Defeating it unlocks the Terrorizing bird achievement.

### Deadliest catch

Later, you will receive a military-related quest that points you toward a very large creature. Upgrade your boat and bring a powerful weapon before heading there.
This is a proper boss fight, not a rod puzzle, so use your strongest weapon rather than trying to rely only on fishing mechanics. Killing the marked creature unlocks Deadliest catch .

### Final Quest and We are so back

Continue completing quests across the later islands and speak to every named NPC you encounter. Eventually, you will reach the final island and the last boss. Finishing the story unlocks We are so back .
The final boss is also tied to another challenge, Handyman . For this achievement, you must defeat the boss with your bare hands. It is better to do this separately after finishing the story once and learning the fight.

## How to Beat a Boss in 10 Seconds — Easy

The Easy achievement requires killing any boss in 10 seconds or less.
Choose an early, relatively weak boss. Equip your strongest weapon beforehand, reload, and stand close to the boss's spawn point. As soon as the fight starts, open fire immediately and do not waste time using the fishing rod or performing unnecessary tricks.
It is not recommended to combine Easy and Handyman on the final boss. Both achievements are much easier when attempted separately.

## How to Get Handyman

Handyman is tied to the final boss. Before entering the arena, unequip your firearms and defeat the boss in melee combat.
The safest option is to use completely empty hands. Knuckles are technically a melee weapon and may not satisfy the achievement check depending on how the game handles the condition. For the most reliable result, use only bare fists.
Finish the game normally first and learn the boss's attacks before attempting the challenge run.

## Boat Upgrades — I am speed and I'm the bird now

The first engine upgrade unlocks Getting an upgrade , but later you will also need to purchase the best available engine. Buying the final tier unlocks I am speed .
Once you have the fastest engine, you can work on I'm the bird now . Accelerate to maximum speed and use a wave, slope, or raised edge of land as a ramp. The boat needs to become clearly airborne.
This is much harder with the first engine, so it is better to unlock I am speed before attempting the jump.

## Weapons and Fully equipped

The pistol is perfectly fine for the early game, while rifles and other stronger guns are much better for airborne kills and bosses.
For Fully equipped , completely outfit one weapon. Fill every available attachment slot on that gun, such as the sight, magazine, grip, and any other categories supported by that weapon.
You do not need to fully upgrade your entire arsenal. One completely equipped weapon is enough.

## Dynamite

Dynamite is particularly useful against groups of creatures and large targets. It is also required for Everyone's dream, which involves killing a seagull with an explosive.
In co-op, be careful with explosives. Dynamite can easily interfere with another player's trick shot or kill attempt.

## How to Sell Something for 100,000 — Rich! Millionaire

Rich! Millionaire requires a single sale worth at least 100,000. The value of several separate transactions does not count.
This achievement is much easier in the late game. Find an expensive creature on one of the final islands or a rare Drip variant, then stack a high Killscore multiplier before killing it. A valuable boss body may also work if the game allows it to be sold.
If your best catch sells for 80,000, selling another creature afterward will not complete the achievement. One individual item must be worth 100,000 or more.

## Casino — GOLD GOLD GOLD and All in

The casino is best left until after the main story, when you have a large amount of money available.
For GOLD GOLD GOLD , you need to obtain a legendary skin from the slot machine. Save up a decent bankroll and keep spinning until the required reward appears.
For All in , use the roulette table. You need to bet on green and win. Because green is rare, smaller repeated bets are safer than risking your entire wallet in a single attempt.

## How to Beat How to Fish in Under One Hour — Bean

The Bean achievement is awarded for finishing the game in less than one hour. Do not try to combine this with a 100% completion run.
If your first playthrough takes longer than an hour, finish the story at your own pace, learn the quest order and NPC locations, then start a fresh run.
During the speedrun, ignore Drip hunting, the casino, collection achievements, and unnecessary upgrades. Complete only the quests required to unlock the next island, buy only essential weapons and engine upgrades, and move immediately toward the next story objective.
If you finish in something like 1 hour and 4 minutes, the lost time usually comes from optional activities such as gambling, Drip farming, money grinding, or buying unnecessary attachments.

## How to Get Collector

Collector requires you to find and kill every regular creature species. While progressing through the story, explore each new island and check beaches, shallow water, rocks, and isolated fishing spots.
Do not try to complete the collection on the first island. New species appear as you unlock additional areas, so opening all islands should be your priority.

## How to Complete Fishipedia

Fishipedia is one of the longest achievements because it requires the rare Drip variants of all relevant creatures.
If your regular collection is already complete but the Fishipedia still shows missing entries, you are probably missing Drip versions rather than new base species. Return to the areas where the corresponding creatures spawn and keep fishing until the rare variant appears.
Fishipedia is best left as your final completion task because farming rare variants can take significantly longer than completing the main story.

## Best Route for 100% Completion

The most efficient approach is to split your playthrough into story progression first and cleanup afterward.
- Kill your first creature for Getting started.
- Activate the grill for Grillmaster and burn one creature for Yummy in my tummy.
- Complete Who stole my beer and unlock further progression.
- Buy the first engine upgrade for Getting an upgrade.
- Use weak creatures to complete Noob, Impressive, and 360 no scope.
- During your first good seagull encounter, let it lift you for Let me go.
- Continue the story through Dinnertime, Vacation, Terrorizing bird, Deadliest catch, and the remaining required quests.
- Defeat the final boss and finish the game for We are so back.
- If your completion time is under one hour, you will also get Bean. Otherwise, do a separate speedrun.
- Buy the best engine for I am speed and make the boat go airborne for I'm the bird now.
- Fully upgrade one weapon for Fully equipped.
- Kill a seagull with dynamite for Everyone's dream.
- Cook and eat a mini-boss for Competitive eating.
- Replay an easy early boss and kill it in under 10 seconds for Easy.
- Defeat the final boss with bare hands for Handyman.
- Sell one creature worth at least 100,000 for Rich! Millionaire.
- Get a legendary skin from the slots and win a roulette bet on green.
- Find every normal creature species for Collector.
- Finish by farming every Drip variant required for Fishipedia.

## Useful Troubleshooting Tips

If the boat remains locked, do not search the shop for the key. Finish the stolen beer quest and speak to the lighthouse keeper and Melvin again.
If Noob does not unlock, check your multiplier after the kill. Even an accidental x2 bonus will invalidate the attempt. Drag a weak creature onto land and kill it in the simplest possible way.
If Impressive does not unlock, the creature may be dying before it properly becomes airborne. Launch it first, then start shooting.
If 360 no scope does not count, make sure you are firing from the hip after the full spin and never using the aiming button.
If a seagull only steals your fish, keep holding the catch and wait. For Let me go, the bird must actually lift your character.
If you cannot make the boat fly, buy the strongest engine first. Then look for a long stretch of water followed by a wave, slope, or edge that can be used as a ramp.
If Handyman fails to unlock, repeat the final boss with every weapon unequipped and use only bare fists.
If an expensive sale does not unlock Rich! Millionaire, check the value of the single body being sold. Several sales that add up to more than 100,000 do not count.
If Fishipedia is still incomplete after Collector, stop searching for new normal species. You are most likely missing a rare Drip version of something already discovered.

## Can You Keep Playing After the Ending?

After finishing the main story, you can continue exploring the islands and clean up most missed objectives. This means your first playthrough does not need to be perfect.
The post-game is a good time to farm Drip variants for Fishipedia, work on difficult Killscore challenges, visit the casino, finish your boat and weapon upgrades, and complete special achievements such as Handyman and Easy.
The only achievement that really benefits from a carefully planned route is Bean. If you fail to finish the story in under an hour on your first attempt, it is much easier to start a new run and follow only the mandatory quest chain.
